A week ago I was walking on the beach with some of my closest friends. It was beautiful that day- the tide was low and slow, melting where it brushed white sand. Fog tinted everything baby blue and veiled the next section of beach. We found small, silver fish and clear jellyfish on the shore, but the most beautiful part was getting to spend time sharing about what God was doing in our lives.
That day on the beach, I said that I really wished I could create more. I want to have records of what God is doing in my life. I want to have a journal filled with prayers and answers and a blog declaring time and time again about the work of His Truth in my life.
Even just artistically, for personal joy, I want to decorate my world to look like the inside of my head. I want to export, share, and be known. Even if I don’t like anything I make, I would rather make more hit and miss things than a few things that I really like. In the long run, I want to have a lot of journals and a blog with thousands of posts to look back on.
I think a crucial part of that process is consuming things. I consume art all the time but I’ve been processing it in new ways lately that have allowed me to actually respond to it. Lately I’ve been flooded with music, movies, personalities, literal art, ideas, and nature (hello, spring!) and I’m realizing that the more you put in, the more you can get out.
Inspirational things of late:
- The Beach. Running around the sand at 2 am with sparkling cider and 8 close friends is amazing.
- Chappie- that robot movie that came out recently. I think I’m going to write a separate blog post on it, because I got a lot out of it. The religious symbolism was incredibly deep to me… (and also the music was cool.)
- Meeting new people- especially boys. I think boys talk about more varieties of things than the girls I know. Girls are overwhelmingly relational, and that’s what matters to us, so that’s what we talk about. Having equally deep conversations about music and sailing and childhood memories with guys I’ve met lately has been so refreshing.
